Is Hunch a chatbot? No.
If someone compares Hunch to Intercom, Tidio, Crisp, Drift, Zendesk, or any live-chat product, the honest answer is: those are a different category, and Hunch is not a replacement for them.
The category difference
Chat widgets and their AI assistants do two things:
- Answer questions using your knowledge base.
- Route — escalate to a human, hand off to an inbox, or capture a lead's details for later follow-up.
They stop at the point of action. When a visitor needs to book a demo, request support, sign up, or submit a form, a chatbot can describe the form, link to it, or capture details and pass them to a human who completes the task later.
Hunch does those first two things too — it answers from your site and knowledge sources, and it supports human handoff. But it goes further:
- Answer the question.
- Complete the journey — read the form on the page, fill every field, click submit, and follow the redirect the form itself takes.
That third step is what makes the category different. A chatbot hands the visitor a link to a form. Hunch operates the form: fill, submit, redirect.
Form, submit, redirect
When Hunch executes an action it:
- Finds the right form on the page — registered modals resolve synchronously, static HTML forms are found by DOM scan
- Fills fields by
name,id, label text, or placeholder - Submits through the page's own event system, so framework-bound forms work
- Follows whatever the form does next — a redirect, a success state, a new page — and reports back
For the visitor, the interaction is one request in chat and a completed outcome, rather than a chat thread followed by a manual form fill.
What Hunch is, instead
The tools Hunch genuinely competes with are the ones that take actions on forms:
- RPA / browser automation — UiPath, Power Automate, Bardeen, Magical
- iPaaS — Zapier, Make, n8n
- Action-taking agents — Sierra, Decagon
- Doing forms by hand
See Hunch vs RPA and browser automation for the closest comparison.
Can Hunch replace a chatbot?
It depends on what you need. If your goal is a questions-and-answers assistant with human routing, a chat platform is the right tool. If your goal is that visitors' requests actually get completed — the demo booked, the form submitted, the account created — that is what Hunch is for. Many teams run both: a chat product for conversations, Hunch on the forms those conversations point at.
